Bold gestures meet coastal comforts in a Marco Island getaway designed to be as livable as it is striking.

Virginia may have its charms, but azure water and swaying palms are not among them. So when a Virginia family sought a coastal escape, they landed on Marco Island, creating a retreat that feels worlds away from their Mid-Atlantic-area life.

The 6,600-square-foot, five-bedroom home was designed by HLevel Architecture and built by BUILD, with interiors by David Fruscione of Republic of Decor. Conceived as a spec house, the structure quickly became a personalized sanctuary once the buyers came aboard. "The clients wanted something dramatically different from their traditional D.C.-area primary residence," David says. "They wanted that casual, coastal, transitional feel while maintaining the sophistication they appreciate."

Crafted in England and available at Naples Art District's Republic of Decor, this more than 4-foot-long assemblage piece, made in 2024, merges industrial materials and artisanal techniques. Hand-turned geometrics connect via brass rings and waxed maritime cord. The composition creates a mobile-like effect that responds to air currents, allowing each piece to move independently while maintaining sculptural cohesion. Custom sizes are available.

With an eye for the unexpected, David Fruscione brings a fresh perspective to Naples interiors at his expanded Naples Art District showroom.

In David Fruscione’s opinion, the little things make a home. “Design is about way more than furniture,” he says. Still, when he arrived in Southwest Florida 14 years ago, he couldn’t help but notice the abundance of furniture stores lining U.S. 41 (“More than anywhere else I’ve ever been,” he says.) and the dearth of independent home accessory boutiques. He decided to do something about it and launched Republic of Decor, a full-service design firm, home accessories wonderland and gift shop, which recently relocated to a 1,500-square-foot emporium in the Naples Art District, a warehouse neighborhood filled with working artists and makers.
