Design Reinvention

Design Reinvention

“The new space is a marriage between a design studio and a retail showroom,” says Fruscione. “We now work a great deal with other design professionals and have dialed
up our selection of one-of-a-kind pieces.”

A design “mini market,” the new space is more intimate than its previous location, but that hasn’t stopped Fruscione from filling it with distinctive items, including pottery lines from Massachusetts, California, and Peru, blown glass from Mexico and Scandinavia, handmade baskets from South Africa, and gift accessories from all over the United States and Europe. “I source from hundreds of makers, artisans, and decor lines to curate a blend of the best in the market,” says Fruscione. “I travel to various trade-focused markets in the U.S. to find pieces throughout the year. In between trade shows and sourcing trips, I also leverage various virtual marketplaces that offer obscure and small lines. I’m always searching and hunting.”

Designer Deference - Custom Curation

From realizing the interiors of entire residences to helping source specific home accessories, David Fruscione, founder and principal designer at Republic of Decor, has been assisting Neapolitans for the past nine years. When Hurricane Ian did enough damage to shutter the doors of his store in the Naples Design District, he opened a pop-up business in Waterside Shops. When that opportunity ended, he took time to do some soul-searching—deciding if he would open another retail space or solely concentrate on providing design services. During this self-described “blackout period,”
Fruscione found a home base for his livelihood within a mostly trade-service area in
North Naples (also home to the Naples Art District).

Designing the future: Naples Design District poised for change

Designing the future: Naples Design District poised for change

Not as well known yet as Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South, another district in the city of Naples is getting ready for its closeup. The city recently contracted with an acclaimed urban planner in an effort to reach a consensus for a common vision to make the Naples Design District all that it can be.
Originally named 41-10 for the area between U.S. 41 North and 10th Street in the city, the Design District extends east from U.S. 41 to Goodlette-Frank Road and south from Seventh Avenue North to a portion of Fifth Avenue South on U.S. 41 East. To create a blueprint for reimagining this area, Miami-based DPZ CoDesign and the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency spearheaded a series of charette sessions last fall with residents, retailers, restaurateurs, property owners and other stakeholders. DPZ promises to present a draft master plan this spring to CRA, proposing transformative development or redevelopment ideas stemming from that week long series of community meetings that brainstormed future possibilities for the Naples Design District.

There's a change taking place in the heart of Naples. While the city has always lured residents and visitors with its promise of laid - back, luxury lifestyle, it also gained attention for its potential for growth, both in terms of professional opportunities and cultural cachet.  between support from local government entities and the imagination and camaraderie exemplified by area business owners and creatives, it seems Naples is poised to start a new chapter of economic prosperity.

One such destination that captures this moment in time is the Naples Design District, which blends a relaxed, coastal vibe with the kind of upscale shopping, restaurants, and real estate typically reserved for more urban settings. In 2018, like-minded community leaders and design district business owners joining together to officially form the retail and dining destination, which spans 10 blocks between Fifth Avenue South and Seventh Avenue North, Bordered bu U.S 41 and Goodlette - Frank Road. Today the design district is fulfilling the founder's vision of serving those in search of unusual finds and an eclectic mix of art, design, style, food, and culture.

Dez Ryan Odegaard, who operates Odegaard art + design, discovered the Naples Design District shortly after moving to nearby Naples Square. Having lived in New York for more than 30 years, she could relate to the neighborhood's character and diversity, and her interior design background exposed her to some of the national brands now available in the design district." I had been to Kravet in New York City, and I was delighted to discover this beautiful, little building with the level of the product I was used to," she says of the home furnishings company that operates a location in the Naples Design District." it is just  super fabric supplier."
